The Breakdown : Hidden Secrets of Self-Love

Hidden Secrets of Self-Love

First let us share our definition of self care.

Self Care: Doing whatever makes you feel like the best version of you. Where you are at peace, walking in love, and prospering. Not allowing anyone or anything to disrupt your peace. Glowing and radiating love unapologetically!

Understanding the POWER of Self-Love:

When you love yourself, you are a completely different person.

You are more confident. You are more comfortable with what you like. You aren’t worried about the opinions that people form about you. You are more generous with your love. You are more motivated to completing tasks. You have more energy to devote to the things that require your attention. You do what brings you joy regardless of what others feel you should do because of THEIR standards. You are free from fear of judgment.

When you love yourself, you are unapologetically YOU!

You take control of your happiness and joy. You set yourself free from stress, worry, anxiety, comparison to others and societal standards.  You are allowed to make mistakes, NO ONE IS PERFECT! The only way that we can improve is by making mistakes and learning from them. Accept who you are and love you!

When you love yourself, you are not being selfish.

Let go of your fears. Let go of people who are toxic to the life that you want to live. Recognize toxic traits in people and how you feel every time you are around these people. Separate yourself from them & love them from a distance. Don’t be afraid of separation. Surround yourself with people who bring value to your life and whose lives you add value to. If someone wants you to do something that you really don’t want to do, don’t force yourself to do it. Do what you are willing to do, don’t give in to pressure because you don’t want to make someone upset, or you fear putting a kink in your relationship with them. Ask God to bring you clarity on what you should do. If you want to help this person, ask God to give you the strength and guidance to move in his glory.

  1. Accepting Yourself for Who You Are – YOU Have a Purpose

Now, God made everyone uniquely and wonderfully in his image and likeness. Which you will see clearly in Genesis 1:26-27. We all have been made to fulfill a purpose. We are all different and not one person was made exactly like another. Not even twins! Why? We all think differently, we all like different things, we have different styles and taste buds, we all have different desires for a reason. Each person experiences their own setbacks in life. Do not wish that you had the life of someone else because you have no idea what they had to go through to get where they are. Accept yourself for who you are and for where you are in life. Embrace it, this is the only way you will be able to see clearly, improve and progress along the path that you desire and the path that has been set for you.

  1. Appreciate Yourself and Your Journey

In order for you to be truly joyful you must appreciate yourself and your journey. You have so much worth and value. Absolutely no one can do what you do. You are an amazing person regardless of what people say. You are strong, know that where you have been is not where you are now. Acknowledge all that you have experienced. You have grown. Take a moment and acknowledge all of your positive qualities, write them down. Remember all of the great things that you have accomplished and done. Don’t compare yourself to anyone, each person has a different journey.

  1. Take Care of Yourself – You Deserve It!

You deserve the BEST! You must take care of yourself. Yes, it's okay to lay in bed to relax and rejuvenate but do not let this turn into laziness. If you feel like you will find joy in doing something, do it! This is a form of taking care of yourself.

  • Take pride in the way you look (your style, no one else's)
  • Go for a nature walk
  • Stretch and exercise your body
  • Cook your favorite meals
  • Speak positive things about yourself (I am statements) and believe them
  • Set goals, steps to achieve your goals and take action on those steps

Set a routine for yourself or special times/dates once a month that you dedicate strictly to empowering yourself.

  1. Pursue your passion – What is your calling?

Each person has a passion, a strong attraction or excitement about something! Pursue it, don’t worry about what people say and think about it! It's your passion, you need to do what makes YOU happy not what makes other people happy. Let me tell you this, people are going to judge you no matter what you do. It is up to you to not acknowledge their judgment and to not let them hold you back from your happiness. Take control over your happiness and don’t let anything get in the way of that. One thing that I have learned is that people rarely want to see other people happy and pursuing their dreams, you cannot let this stop you.

  1. Be Generous and Express Gratitude

Being generous and giving back always makes me feel good. Whether it is doing a weekly trash clean-up, donating to a charity or randomly helping someone in need. I always feel joyful when giving and I always give the honor and glory to God. (I know each person is different) So for me, at the end of the day when I meditate and pray, I give the glory to God because I know that all that I have would not have been given to me without him blessing me with it.

  • Be thankful for your journey
  • Be thankful for the things that you have learned
  • Be thankful for your loved ones
  • Be thankful for guidance
  • Be thankful for Gods divine protection
  • Be thankful for the air in your lungs
  • Be thankful for the food that you have

Just be thankful.
